Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information Part 1 Claims collects when you use this website, why we need it, and the control you keep over it. We are the data controller for the information described below.

What we collect

  • Property details you enter — postcode, address, property type, ownership, and the physical effects you report. Postcodes are sent to the public postcodes.io lookup service to locate the property.
  • Contact details — name, email address and telephone number when you ask us to contact you, sign up for works notifications, or open a claim file.
  • Claim file content — documents, photographs and notes you upload to your claim tracker.
  • Account data — your email address and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the basic profile that provider returns.
  • Analytics — anonymous usage statistics through Google Analytics, and only after you accept analytics cookies.
  • AI assistant messages — the questions you ask the assistant, so we can answer follow-ups and improve the answers.

Why we use it

To assess whether you may have a claim under Part 1 of the Land Compensation Act 1973, to prepare and progress that claim, to tell you when a claim window opens near your property, and to answer your enquiries. Our lawful bases are your consent (for marketing and analytics), the performance of our agreement with you (for claim work), and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries and improving the service.

Who we share it with

Only where it is needed to do the work: the acquiring authority and its valuers when a claim is served on your instruction, any surveyor or solicitor instructed on your claim, and the service providers who host this site, its database and its email. We use an AI model provider to power the assistant and to triage enquiries. We never sell your data and we do not share it for third-party advertising.

How long we keep it

Enquiries and postcode checks that do not become claims are kept for up to two years. Claim files are kept for six years after the claim concludes, reflecting the statutory limitation period. You can ask us to delete your data sooner.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, withdraw consent, or ask us to restrict what we do with it. Email us and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

We set only what is needed to keep you signed in until you accept analytics cookies. See the cookie policy for the detail, including how to change your mind.
