Your claim windows, diarised
Two dates decide whether a Part 1 claim can be made at all. You cannot serve a notice of claim until a year after the works opened, and the right to claim is lost six years after that. Here is where each of your saved schemes stands today.

How the dates are worked out
- First claim day — opening date plus one year
- Compensation is assessed on the physical factors as they are once the works are in normal use, so the Act bars any claim in the first twelve months.
- Last claim day — first claim day plus six years
- After that the limitation period has run and the authority cannot entertain the claim, however strong the evidence.
- Opening dates are indicative
- Ours come from published scheme information. The date that binds you is the date the works actually opened to public use, which we confirm with the acquiring authority before serving your claim — so treat a closed window as worth a conversation rather than the end of the matter.
